Namsan Park was designated as the No. 9 Park
of Seoul on March 12, 1940. Within the park are
Seoul Tower, Botanical Museum, Namsan Library,
Yongsan Library and other facilities, in addition
to the 10 commemorative statues of the patriots
against the Imperial Japan including Kim Ku, Ahn
Jung Keun, Lee Jun, Ryuh Kwan Soon, Bang Jung
Hwan, Tae Gye Lee Hwang, and Dasan Jung Yak Yong.
Also housed by the park are the commemorative
tombstones and memorial museums for Kim So Wol
and Shibi. To the left of the Tower Entrance is
preserved a time capsule containing detailed records
on various working tools to educate people on
the wisdom and knowledge people practiced at least
500 years ago in Korea.
Namsan Botanical Museum
Opened on December 23, 1968 at the entrance of
Mt. Namsan, the Namsan Botanical Museum offers
82 branches of plants, 800 types, and 7,000 plants
to include foliage plants, carnivorous plants,
cactus, bonsai and others for people to come and
enjoy seeing. In the spirit of 600 years of Seoul,
the City of Seoul has launched a campaign to restore
Mt.Namsan to its original conditions.
This campaign includes transfers and removal of
military bases, foreigners' apartments, and U.S.
military facilities to create citizens parks such
as 'Traditional Cultural Village,' 'All Green
Hill,' and 'National Anthem Ground,' while restoring
fortress relics and other traces of our history.
Consequently, the Foreigners Apartment of Namsan
were destroyed and developed a new citizens park
in 1996.
