Although Koreans have suffered much pain and suffering
from conflicts with other nations for its geopolitical
significance over 30 times through 5,000 years
of our history, we have overcome the challenges
and continued to preserve our identity as a single
nation country.
For Korea that we have today, there were many
sacrifices of lives made to help preserve this
nation.
To commemorate
the spirits of Koreans who died with name or without
name, the War Memorial Association was launched
in 1989, after which the War Memorial was constructed
by September 28, 1990. After completing the interior
display, the War Memorial was opened to the public
on June 10, 1994.
The
largest of its kind, the War Memorial largely
divides into the indoor and outdoor displays,
while over 13,600 items are displayed within.
The indoor display covers the total of 6,159 pyung
of area and includes 7 rooms such as In Memory
of Patriots, War History, Korean War, Vietnam
War Dispatchment, Army Development, Large Equipment,
and Defense Equipment. Surprising, in these rooms
are preserved all resources and materials dating
from the present to the early Korea.
Particularly, the Korea War room graphically enlivens
the entire process of how the Korean War started
for the public's proper understanding of its history.
In the outdoor display are displayed large weapons
used during the Korean War and also those from
all around the world. In miniature model weapons
display room, there are approximately 420 displays
of major weapons utilized by the army, navy and
air force.
